ICSI CSEET 2026 Syllabus Overview

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) launched a revised syllabus for the Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET) for the November 2023 session and onwards, and for use in the 2026 examinations. It is essential for candidates to read through the new syllabus prior to beginning their studies.

To clear the CSEET, candidates need to score at least 40% in every subject and have an overall aggregate of 50%. Once you clear the CSEET, students are eligible to register for the CS Executive 2026 exams.

CSEET Eligibility

Institute of Company Secretaries of India ICSI lays down the eligibility criteria and through which you can apply to sit for the CSEET exam. If you wish to be a company secretary, then you are bound to fulfill these eligibilities. You include both age and education level requirements. These are the stipulated criterions that you shall learn before accepting applications for the CSEET exam in 2026. The examination is held four times a year. It is organized by the ICSI.

1. Educational requirement: It requires completing or studying 10+2 at the senior secondary school for the candidates to sit for the CSEET exam.

2.Age Bar: No age bar is required for ICSI for the CSEET exam. But candidates’ age should be 17 years as on application date.

Structure of CSEET 2026 Papers

The exam consists of four papers, each covering different core areas:

Paper 1 – Business Communication

Paper 2 – Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning

Paper 3 – Economic and Business Environment

Paper 4 – Current Affairs & Quantitative Aptitude

Paper 1: Business Communication (Total Marks: 50)

This paper tests the candidates’ command over English, understanding of business correspondence, and basic communication concepts.

1. Essentials of Good English

  • Grammar concepts (Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, etc.)
  • Vocabulary development
  • Common language errors
  • Multiple-meaning words
  • Synonyms, Antonyms, Homophones
  • Idioms, Proverbs, Foreign phrases
  • Abbreviations, Para jumbles, Sentence corrections
  • Comprehension and summarization skills

2.  Communication

  • Meaning and importance of effective communication
  • Business communication process
  • Verbal, non-verbal, written, and digital modes
  • Communication networks (e.g., Chain, Wheel)
  • Barriers to communication and listening skills

3.  Business Correspondence

  • Structure and tone of business letters
  • Writing positive/negative/persuasive messages
  • Office communications: Memos, Notes, MIS
  • Email communication essentials and etiquette

4.  Common Business Terminologies

  • Frequently used financial and legal terms in various regulations

Paper 2: Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning (Total Marks: 50)

This paper is divided into two sections to evaluate knowledge of legal frameworks and logical reasoning.

1. Indian Constitution

  • Preamble, Rights, Duties, Amendments

o Major structures: Parliament, Judiciary, State functions

2. General Laws

  • Contract Law: Offer, Agreement, Breach, Performance
  • Law of Torts: Nuisance, Negligence, Liabilities

3. Company Secretaries Legislation

  • Structure, purpose, and role under the CS Act and Companies Act

4. Company Law Elements

  • Types of companies, incorporation, board meetings, CSR, ethics

5. Legal Reasoning

  • Legal terms, reading legal cases, analogies, legal maxims
  • Analysis through factual and legal questions

Part B: Logical Reasoning (25 Marks)

6.  Logical Reasoning

  • Clocks, Calendars, Coding-Decoding, Cause-effect, Series

7. Verbal Reasoning

  • Analogies, Blood relations, Syllogisms, Puzzle tests

8.   Non-Verbal Reasoning

  • Pattern completion, Mirror images, Rule detection

Paper 3: Economic and Business Environment (Total Marks: 50)

Divided into two sections, this paper deals with economic principles and the changing business environment.

Part A: Economics (25 Marks)

1.     Demand, Supply, and Market Structures

  • Elasticity, Market types (Monopoly, Oligopoly, etc.)

2.   National Income Accounting

  • GDP, GNP, NDP, NNP – concepts and calculations

3.Union Budget

  • Budget components, revenue/capital classification, fiscal deficit

4. Financial Markets

  • Overview of the Indian financial ecosystem and institutions
  • Capital market basics and support systems for MSMEs/startups

5. Indian Economy Overview

  • Sectoral structure: Agriculture, Manufacturing, Services
  • Policies, trade balance, foreign investment

6. Entrepreneurship

  • Startup initiatives, obstacles, and role of entrepreneurship in growth

7.  Business Ecosystem

  • Environmental types (economic, legal, socio-cultural, etc.)
  • Indicators like the Ease of Doing Business Index

8.  Key Institutions

  • Regulatory and advisory bodies such as SEBI, RBI, NITI Aayog, etc.

This paper tests awareness in current events and basic numerical skills.

Part A: Current Affairs (20 Marks)

1. General Awareness

  • Global and national organization updates (BRICS, IMF, etc.)
  • Financial, legal, political news
  • Recent judgments, environment, science & tech
  • Significant appointments, awards, and sports
  • Government schemes and initiatives
  • Regulatory and CS profession-specific updates

Part B: Quantitative Aptitude (30 Marks)

  1. Numerical Skills
  • Number systems, decimals, fractions

2. Arithmetic Ability

  • Percentages, Ratios, Square roots, Averages
  • Simple and Compound Interest, Profit & Loss

Preparation strategy:
